What is the BootBus? The BootBus is the "BootsnAll Bus" – so if you're familiar with BootsnAll - you understand what the BootBus is all about.
The BootBus is an idea from 1996. The BootsnAll Story explains part of it, but basically, Chris and Sean wanted to travel around the States in a VW bus. We spent the summer of 1997 in Chicago, doing odd jobs and deciding where we wanted to travel to next. We made a few attempts to look at vans of various varieties, thinking we'd be off on a road trip.
As it turned out we ended up going to Yellowstone Park to work for the summer, on the spur of the moment, with a friend of ours (Thanks Freesia!). That is where the idea of BootsnAll started to hatch, as we developed the Code of Conduct while on a three-day hike.
Driving across the USA and hanging out in a place like Yellowstone, where a lot of travellers pass through, we saw plenty of VW campers and Kombis. We'd always say, "One day we'll have one of those and travel around the US!"
Almost 6 years later, that day finally came to pass. The idea of the BootBus has morphed slightly over time. Originally all we wanted was a road-tripping, travel vehicle that we could use for camping, meeting other travellers, and going wherever we wanted, when we wanted. Now, in addition to all that, we also want to be able to use the bus as a truly mobile office, working on BootsnAll on the road, via a wireless internet system so we can work wherever we go, whenever we go.

It'll trim down the number of archives you have to look through to get the one you want and if you're only interested in Maintenance, Road Trips or People in the BootBus, then that's all you'll have to read about! Cool, huh?

I normally try hard not to love an inanimate object....but the BootBus is challenging me. Since the stereo has been put in, with the paint and logo job all done, having a happy hour in it yesterday arvo, and the Campus Crawl coming up - it is becoming more homey. It is so homey I find myself making excuses to go out to it and fiddle with it. I am addicted.
Before Departure Thoughts
I am back at the office and Chris and Nick are finishing up our laundry. We just had a great morning, doing laundry and having coffee at Starbucks before packing and taking off. I am excited and ready to go.
Things I am looking forward to:
1 - Driving - Long road trips like this are fun. Nick and I have loads of food to stop and eat when we are hungry.
2 - Meeting BootsnAll members and friends. There are countless people that I will/should meet on this trip that I have been friends with for years. To finally meet up for a drink or whatever, should be great.
3 - The Challenge of doing it...we have been planning this for months. I am looking forward to pulling it off.
4 - Meeting new folks that are "into travel" and all that it has to offer.
5 - Learning - as always - I am looking forward to learning about new things.
6 - Nick - hanging out with him. Nick will be heading out to Europe and Bali soon, so this will be a good time to spend time with an old friend.
7 - I'm sure there is more, but I gotta get to...
Things I am not looking forward to: (I have a postive attitude about these, but may not be my favorites)
1 - waking up on not enough sleep
2 - Traffic Jams (at least we have a radio now)
3 - I can't think of anything else....

Now that the Campus Crawl is over - Nick and I are back at the office, catching up on e-mail, preparing for 2003, and specifically BootsnAll's office in Bali. There are still more profiles to come.
BootBus at Tin Shed
Wow, it has been way too long since I posted to BootBus...since a few of us went for a ride and feed this morning....
Donovan showed up at the office at 6:30 am this morning and by 8 a.m. - Court, Abbey, Carrie, Donovan and I were off to the Tin Shed. A beautiful sunny winter day in Portland, Oregon.
